Your Plan for Regular Physical Activity
Regular physical activity
can help you lose weight and keep it off. You can also improve your energy level and mood and reduce the risk of developing heart
disease, diabetes and some cancers.
According to 2008
Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, experts
believe that all adults should be physically active. Some activity is better than none, and participating in an amount of physical activity can have some health benefits. Most physical activity should be moderate to vigorous intensity. However, adults should try to include
Muscle Building
activities too. For more information about physical activity guidelines, see "Other Resources" at the end of this booklet.
It can be physically active every day for a long period of time, or may be divided into shorter sessions of 20, 15 or even 10 minutes. Try some of these physical activities:
◆ walk
(15 minutes per mile or
4 miles per hour)
◆ bike
◆ tennis
◆ aerobic exercise
courses (step, kickboxing, dance)
◆ home energy or work in the garden (gardening, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming)
